RWANDA AND TURKEY VOW TO STRENGTHEN BILATERAL RELATIONS

Kigali, 31 May, 2016 -Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mevlüt Cavusoglu, visited Rwanda for the first time to cement bilateral partnership between Rwanda and Turkey. This visit was marked by the signing of three important agreements between the government of the Republic of Rwanda and the government of the Republic of Turkey.

The agreements signed include an agreement on cooperation in the field of education between  the government of the Republic of turkey and the government of the republic of Rwanda; agreement between the government of the Republic of Turkey and the government of the Republic of Rwanda concerning mutual abolition of visas for holders of diplomatic passports and a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the ministry of foreign affairs of Turkey and the ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Rwanda. The signing was between Minister Mevlüt Cavusoglu and Minister Louise Mushikiwabo.

Speaking after the signing, Minister Louise Mushikiwabo reiterated that she  look forward to deepen already excellent cooperation in various areas between the two countries and that the visit of Minister Mevlüt Cavusoglu being the first visit of a foreign Minister of Turkey to Rwanda is significant. “We look forward to upgrade our bilateral cooperation not only in these agreements signed but also in all agreements signed previously”, she said.

Minister Mushikiwabo added that many Turkish companies have invested in the country over the last six to seven years and that there still need to do more to bring to fruitiest our bilateral relations. Minister Mushikiwabo also acknowledged Turkey’s commitment towards Africa.
